Blue Spirit mask on cart in ep 2x04

Near the beginning of "The Swamp" episode, Zuko and Iroh are shown sitting on the side of a road in a small town. For a brief moment a cart carrying masks is pulled past them -- on the upper right corner is a Blue Spirit mask like Zuko wore in Book 1: Water, and even the Blue Spirit jingle tune plays. ^^ At the end of the episode Zuko returns as his alter ego, complete with mask which he may have gotten from this cart.

Katara's crown returns in ep. 2x04

Back in season one's episode "The Blue Spirit," Momo found a bunch of treasures and other stuff for the ill Katara and Sokka, including an old crown for Katara. That crown makes a comeback in the season two episode "The Swamp" -- while Momo and Appa are running from the local waterbenders who hope to catch and eat them, Momo throws among other things Katara's crown at them from Appa's saddle. ^^;

More Sokka foreshadowing in ep. 2x05

After Sokka loses his boomerang in the episode "Avatar Day," he relates losing it to as if Aang lost his arrow or if Katara lost her hair loopies. It's a laugh at the time, but in the third season, they all do lose their signature features because of their Fire Nation disguises. Aang hides his arrow under a headband, Katara switches to a local hair style, and Sokka stops using his boomerang in favor of a sword. (Thanks hersheygirl66!)

Zuko almost steals food from Hope family in ep. 2x07

In the beginning of the episode "Zuko Alone," Zuko is traveling through the Earth Kingdom looking starved and parched, when he finds a man and woman down the cliffside cooking meat. He prepares to move in when he notices that the woman is pregnant, then decides against it and continues on. That couple becomes an important part of the show five episodes later in "The Serpent's Pass" when Aang and friends help them travel to Ba Sing Se safely. (Thanks everyone who sent this in!)

Azula's doll & Toph share hair/headband style in ep. 2x07

During one of Zuko's childhood flashbacks mid-way through the episode "Zuko Alone," Uncle Iroh sends Azula a doll wearing fashionable Earth Kingdom clothes. These clothes, at least the hair and headband anyway, are almost identical to Toph's style, who joined the cast an episode earlier. Who knew that hair/headband style would still be popular 7-8 years later? (Thanks Cecilia!)

Library statue looks like Spirit Crane in ep. 2x10

When Aang awakens in the Spirit World in the beginning of episode 1x20 "Siege of the North (part 2)," a large white crane flies across the screen. Nothing is ever mentioned about the crane or what it represents in the Avatar world, but in the second season episode "The Library," there is a quick shot of a large crane statue in the background. The statue's features are identical to the Spirit World crane. (Thanks Lu10!)

Lionturtle first seen in Library scroll in ep. 2x10

While the gaang is inside Wan Shi Tong's desert library in the episode "The Library," Aang is flipping through a book when he comes across a Lionturtle drawing. He shows it to the others, but Sokka dismisses it saying he's seen weirder. But later on in the season three finale episode 3x19 "Sozin's Comet, part 2: The Old Masters," the ancient Lionturtle plays an important role and gives valuable advice to Aang. Hurray for subtle foreshadowing! (Thanks Mo, Scooter, and everyone else who emailed this in!)

Sneak peek of mugger from Iroh's Tale in ep. 2x14

Click the pics above for the full-sized screenshots

When the Gaang and Joo Dee are traveling through the lower ring of Ba Sing Se in the episode "City of Walls and Secrets," they pass by two guys in an alleyway. In the next episode "Tales of Ba Sing Se" in the Iroh centric story, Iroh is confronted by the same man who was sitting with the sword. Note the same brown outfit, patch on the knee and elbow, shoes, folded collar, and uh, the same face. ^^; (Thanks Tungsten!)

Aang+Katara/Pietà statue visual reference in ep 2x20

At the battle climax in "The Crossroads of Destiny" episode, Aang is electrocuted by Azula while in the Avatar state, effectively killing him. Katara rushes over on a wave to catch him, and when the water recedes she's on the ground holding him. Their pose mirrors the famous Pietà statue by Michelangelo, which depicts the Virgin Mary cradling Jesus after he had died, and is a theme from Christian art. (Thanks Mirei!)

Aang & Katara's first meeting visual parallel in ep. 2x20

Click the pic above for the full-sized screenshot

In the first Avatar episode, "The Boy in the Iceberg," Aang and Katara's first meeting goes like this: After Aang falls/faints down the ice and Katara catches him, she leans him up against the ice and there's a close up of their faces as he wakes up. In the season 2 finale, "The Crossroads of Destiny," after the battle with Azula, Katara revives Aang with the Spirit Oasis water and the scene visually plays out much like their first meeting.
