Name Rater

Thanks to Kabalarian Philosophy, we can take an insightful look into the hidden meanings of the main game's fairy names!

  Navi

"...Gives you tenacity of purpose and has made you extremely independent. Whatever you undertake, you approach from your own point of view, and others either have to conform to your ideas or go their own way and leave you to work things out for yourself. You are so narrowly focused in your pursuits that you frequently overlook the little personal considerations and attentions that create a bond of understanding and sense of companionship. Thus it is difficult for you to merge your efforts harmoniously with others."

Hm, sorta explains why so many people find the beloved Navi annoying - because she cares so much about making sure Link saves Hyrule! Can you blame her though? After Link enters the Sacred Realm, all hell breaks loose. I'd be worried too!

Another note on Navi's name is that it is short for "navigation," which is true since Navi 'navigates' you through the order in which the game is completed. She also navigates your aim when fighting with the Z/L targeting. :)

Tatl

"...Creates a very independent, practical, analytical nature with skillful business abilities. You desire freedom from restrictions and authority in order that you can pursue your own ambitions. This name gives you leadership qualities and you are seldom happy in positions where you must take direction from others. Material and financial success are the focus of your interests, but sacrificing much for material ambition will result in a lack of harmony and balance in your personal life, particularly a lack of appreciation for social courtesies and things of a more inspirational nature."

I think this fits Tatl well. A little rough on the outside, but soft on the inside. It also helps explain her bossy attitude and difficulty saying "thank you," but not her deep caring for her brother.

Another note on Tatl's name is that it is a play on the English word "tattle" as in "tattletale", which is what you call someone when they rat you out to a grown-up for doing something bad. Silly children.

Tael

"...Makes you serious-minded, responsible, and stable. You love the security of a home and family and you are fond of children. Although you have good business judgment, you are not aggressive in your dealings because you do not like to create issues. You would be successful in any position dealing with the public as you have a diplomatic and tactful manner and possess a charming, easy-going nature, which puts people at ease. People are drawn to you because they feel that you are patient, kind, understanding, and responsive."

Hmmm... Well, Tael was pretty laid-back; liked playing games with Skullkid and sticking by his side despite the problems he caused and getting separated from his sister. He did have a serious side too, like when telling Tatl right away about bringing in the four Giants, despite earning some bruises from Skullkid.

Like Tatl, Tael's name is a play on the English word "tale" as in "tattletale", which is what you call someone when they rat you out to a grown-up for doing something bad.

Ciela

"...gives you a responsible, expressive, inspirational, and friendly personality. Expression comes naturally to you and you are rarely at a loss for words; in fact, you have to put forth effort at times to curb an over-active tongue. Self-confidence has made it easy for you to meet people and you are well-liked for your spontaneous, happy ways. You sincerely like people and do not often experience loneliness; your work and home-life are likely filled with association. Although the name Ciela creates the urge to be reliable and responsible, we emphasize that it frustrates you through a scattered and emotional nature."

Ciela is the fairy that guides Link in Phantom Hourglass. This reading is pretty close to her in the game, both personality-wise and action-wise. She gets along well with most of the characters, except for Lineback, haha. And with her association to Oshus and the other fairies, she certainly does have connections.

Another note on Ciela's name is that it is a variation of the French, Italian, and Spanish words for "sky." Although she is actually white/yellow in the game, so... I'm not sure how that fits. ^^;
